Porch Decor

Jen Schwindt

This is a follow up post from my last porch post. My last post I talked about the exterior as a whole and how adding a porch made a big difference to the look of our home. Check out the before and after here.

Today I'm going to talk about the pretty, the little details, the things that I will be able to change with the seasons. I am so looking forward to changing the porch décor with the seasons: spring, summer, fall, and winter. Don't forget Christmas! It has me looking forward to Christmas. (Did I really just say Christmas?!) I know, slow down, enjoy the present, the summer is gorgeous and really the best time to use the porch.

Here are some pictures of how it is currently.

We have a large table, it's so nice to have somewhere close to our main interior living area that this is really just an expansion of our living space. This is one of my favourite places to work. It also gets used for school work, colouring, and some meals.

We have a sitting area as well. A nice place to take a break and enjoy a cup of coffee. A place to sit and listen to the birds sing or the summer rain falling.

The porch has become a place to play, a place to relax, a place to sit back, rest for a minute and enjoy the present. Get some fresh air.

Found this little guy in the garden while I was digging one day. He is now our porch puppy and lives in this plant pot. Your decorations can be fun, interesting, and unexpected. It's not something you notice in the overall, but when you start to look at the details, he's there. It's playful.

This old lantern was left at our house when we moved in.

Our chalk board gets a lot of use out here. It's a fun place for the kids (...or adults) to draw and it keeps the chalk dust outside!

It is likely that the decor will change; it will likely change often. As we use the porch it will continue to evolve. It's amazing that a relatively small change to the overall design of your house can have such a big impact on the overall look as well as your lifestyle and how you can use the space.

Hope you are all enjoying the beautiful summer we are having!
